The Origin of Bocce

There are many stories as to the origin of Bocce.  From the Ancient Egyptians to the Roman Empire. But we are partial to the story of Sir Francis Drake.

He and Queen Elizabeth were the first notable figures to have been avid fans of the game.  According to legend, it was Sir Francis Drake himself who refused to set out to defend England against the Spanish Armada until he finished a game. He famously proclaimed, “First we finish the game, then we’ll deal with the Armada!”

And so, with that inspiration we decided to name our Championship Trophy after Sir Francis Drake.

The Drake is awarded to the winner of the Ultimate Bocce Championship at the end of the season in a lavish ceremony where all those in attendance can cheer, applaud and hail to the Ultimate King of Bocce.
